As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Karim Hussain diagnoses and treats problems affecting the mouth, teeth, gums, jaws, salivary glands, face, neck and other related facial structures.
Oral surgery may be required to diagnose or treat injuries and diseases in the mouth. Biopsies can determine the presence of oral cancer or tumors, which may then be surgically removed (excised). Tooth extractions prevent or treat damage caused by impacted wisdom teeth or crowding. Surgery of the jaws can correct jaw alignment problems, TMJ, malocclusion ("bad bite") or other problems. The two-fold goal is to treat the problem and achieve the most aesthetically pleasing result possible.
Dr. Karim Hussain's specialties include:
Surgery of the Teeth - Surgery of the Mouth - Tumours/Cancer - Salivary Gland Conditions
Temporomandibular Joint
Disorders (TMJ) - Facial Deformity - Facial Trauma - Cosmetic Surgery
Surgery of the Teeth
Extraction of Buried or Impacted Teeth
Wisdom teeth may erupt sideways, part of the way, or not at all. Improperly erupted wisdom teeth have the potential to damage nearby teeth, bone and roots, and invite bacterial infection, which in turn leads to pain, swelling, jaw stiffness and other problems. Dr. Karim Hussain is highly experienced in performing this surgery. Removal of teeth by Dr. Hussain, who also treats dentists and their families, is gentle and effective.
Dental Implants
Dental implants provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. No more need to deal with uncomfortable dentures or bridges—with permanent dental implants, a person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat and smile with effortless confidence.
Dental implants can support replacements for one or more teeth, including bridges, crowns or dentures. Dental implants allow outstanding results in both appearance and function of the new teeth.
The implants themselves are titanium cylinders which are surgically implanted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts are then attached to the implant. Protruding through the gums, these posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.
